The hotel
New York on the eighteenth floor.
The Waldorf Astoria in the financial centre opened on 9 July 2019, the brand's first city hotel in the UAE after its resorts on Palm Jumeirah and in Ras Al Khaimah. It fills floors 18 to 55 of the Burj Daman, a tower of offices and apartments in DIFC. Reception, the restaurants and the spa all sit on the eighteenth floor, and every room above looks out through floor-to-ceiling glass.
The design looks back to Manhattan in the 1960s, the years of Mad Men. Marble, ebony, brass and bronze run through the public rooms, and the entrance has a mirrored ceiling over a patterned marble floor. Two names come from the original hotel in New York: Peacock Alley, after its colonnade promenade, and the Bull & Bear steakhouse. Upstairs, the bathrooms are marble, stocked with Ferragamo products.
- St. Trop A rooftop lounge in the manner of the French Riviera, with a pool, a whirlpool and a timber deck, and the Burj Khalifa in view.
- Waldorf Astoria Spa Four treatment suites with a flotation tank, a hammam table and a Vichy shower, plus a grooming suite and a gym.
- In the financial district DIFC is a few hundred metres away on foot, and the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall are under two kilometres.
