The hotel

The first resort on the Palm, and still the best known.

Atlantis, The Palm opened in 2008 as the first resort on Palm Jumeirah. Its East and West towers stand on the crescent, with the open sea on one side and the Palm on the other. In the lobby, a Dale Chihuly sculpture rises ten metres, built from 3,000 pieces of hand-blown glass.

Beneath the hotel lies the Ambassador Lagoon: eleven million litres of seawater, seen through a viewing panel ten metres long and seventy centimetres thick. Together with the Lost World Aquarium, it holds more than 65,000 marine animals. Upstairs, FZN by Björn Frantzén holds three MICHELIN stars, and Ossiano and Hakkasan Dubai hold one each.

  • Aquaventure More than 105 slides, rides and attractions, including two river rides. The resort calls it the world's largest waterpark, and entry is included for hotel guests.
  • The Ambassador Lagoon The largest open-air aquarium in Africa and the Middle East, according to the resort. The Underwater Suites and Ossiano both look straight into the marine life.
  • Imperial Club A private check-in desk and concierge, a lounge with breakfast, afternoon tea and sunset drinks, and a beach of its own.

From a sea-view room to a bedroom inside the lagoon.

Rooms face the Arabian Sea or the Palm. At the top of the scale, the Grand Atlantis Suite spreads over 429 square metres, with five private balconies.

  • Queen or king Deluxe rooms 45 to 47 square metres, with sea or Palm views. Imperial Club rooms of the same size add the club lounge and its beach.
  • Two bedrooms Family rooms 90 square metres for up to six adults and a child. Sensible for a family spending its days at the waterpark.
  • Signature suite Underwater Suite 165 square metres with a king bed, a private lift and a butler around the clock. The view is underwater, straight into the Ambassador Lagoon.
