The hotel

On the beach before the Marina.

The Ritz-Carlton, Dubai opened in late September 1998 on a stretch of coast that is now The Walk at Jumeirah Beach Residence. Dubai Marina and the Palm Jumeirah came later. It was among the first five-star hotels in the emirate and one of the chain's first addresses in the Middle East, and in 2005 it became the first hotel in the UAE to win the Dubai Quality Gold Award.

The towers of JBR have since risen all around, but the hotel stayed low, set in gardens behind its own beach. All 294 rooms and suites have a balcony or terrace over the sea. Six pools are spread through the grounds, one of them at La Baie kept for guests aged 21 and over. Inside, chandeliers hang in the Lobby Lounge, whose terrace looks over the gardens to the sea.

  • Six pools A family pool at The Gulf Pavilion, a swim-up bar, and an adults-only pool at La Baie for guests of 21 and over.
  • On the sand A private beach in front of the hotel, with Tamoka and Caña Beach for lunch and sunset.
  • Splendido Italian cooking on a terrace and piazza in the Tuscan manner, from Wednesday to Sunday evenings.
