The hotel
A mirage on the Al Sufouh shore.
One&Only Royal Mirage opened in 1999, before the Palm Jumeirah was raised from the sea in front of it. Its builders took Arabian forms, arches, domes, towers and courtyards, and set them in sixty-five acres of palm gardens behind a kilometre of beach. The name comes from an Arabic fable. Executive chef Laurent Michel oversees eight restaurants across the grounds, from the Moroccan Tagine to the Indian Trèsind.
Arabian Court is one of the two places to stay at the resort, with its own pool that leads down to the beach. Rooms have carved wooden headboards and coloured mosaics, and each has a balcony over the bay or a terrace on the gardens. Next door, The Residence & Spa is the smaller and more private part, with its own staff and pool.
- The beach About a kilometre of private sand on Palm Island Bay, with kayaks, sailing and windsurfing.
- The hammam A marble hammam under a tiled dome, with therapists trained in the Moroccan, Tunisian and Turkish traditions.
- Four pools All temperature-controlled, two of them for adults only, and the Arabian Court Pool opening onto the beach.
