The hotel
Lagerfeld's Chinoiserie.
The Karl Lagerfeld fills one of the three towers of Grand Lisboa Palace, the SJM resort in Cotai, and opened in 2023. It is the only hotel tower whose interior was designed entirely by Lagerfeld. He chose every pattern and material, from the headboards shaped like Chinese good-fortune coins to the circular moon-gate dividers, yet the MICHELIN inspectors note that he never visited the building.
The lobby is in burnished gold and black marble, lined with books and hung with more than a thousand keys, a nod to The Grand Budapest Hotel. Terzani of Florence made the chandeliers; Marcel Wanders and Jean-Michel Othoniel made sculptures for the public rooms. Upstairs there are handmade Jingdezhen vases and cherry blossom wallpaper. Lagerfeld picked about four thousand volumes for the Book Lounge, where tea is poured.
- The Book Lounge A tearoom with some four thousand books, selected by Lagerfeld himself.
- The spa Six treatment rooms in dark and gold tones on the third floor, using 111SKIN, rated Five-Star by Forbes in 2026.
- Two pools An indoor pool among scalloped stone columns and an outdoor one with cabanas over the resort's French gardens.
