The hotel
Lofts on the jewel box.
MGM Cotai opened on 13 February 2018, a US$3.4 billion resort of about 1,400 rooms. Kohn Pedersen Fox stacked eight cantilevered boxes into one tower and wrapped it in MGM gold, which the firm and MGM call a jewellery box. Skylofts sit at the top, the first of MGM's Skylofts outside Las Vegas, a small hotel within the larger one.
The rooms take their cue from New York lofts: high ceilings, natural light and neutral colours, hung with contemporary Chinese art, including works by Li Lei. Guests check in at the Sky Lounge on the 33rd floor and have a concierge of their own. Below, the resort keeps an art collection of more than three hundred pieces, among them twenty-eight imperial carpets from the Qing dynasty.
- The Sky Lounge The private lounge on the 33rd floor, where Skylofts guests check in and are looked after by their own concierge.
- Sky Wellness and TRIA Spa Every stay includes a Sky Wellness Prime Journey and the wet facilities of the TRIA Spa.
- Spectacle The glass-roofed hall at the centre of MGM Cotai, home to an indoor garden of more than 100,000 plants.
