The hotel
The lobby on the top floor.
Altira opened on 12 May 2007 as Crown Macau, and took its present name in April 2009. Wong Tung & Partners designed the tower: 38 floors and about 160 metres, the tallest building in Taipa. It belongs to Melco Resorts, the group behind City of Dreams and Studio City, a couple of kilometres away in Cotai, and shuttle buses run between the three. In the second quarter of 2026 its rooms were 98 per cent full.
Arrivals ride straight up to the 38th floor, where the lobby and the 38 Lounge sit at the top of the building with a terrace outside. Peter Remedios did the interiors, with clean lines, hardwood floors and colours of chocolate and sage. Rooms have floor-to-ceiling glass facing the sea, the bridges and the peninsula. The four villas, of 256 square metres each, are set apart from the other guest floors.
- Three Forbes Five-Star kitchens Aurora for Italian cooking, Tenmasa for tempura and Ying for Cantonese, each rated Five-Star by Forbes Travel Guide.
- Altira Spa Two floors, also Five-Star, with a couples' room that has its own steam room and whirlpool.
- The view from the lobby Indoor and outdoor seats at the 38 Lounge, looking over the water to the peninsula and its bridges.
