The hotel
A night at the zoo.
Taronga Zoo climbs the north shore of the harbour in Mosman, on Cammeraigal land, with the city skyline straight across the water. In October 2019 the zoo opened its own hotel inside the grounds: five low lodges by Cox Architecture, built into native bushland and joined to one another, in timber, recycled metal and pale sandstone.
The Taronga Conservation Society, a not-for-profit, owns and runs it, and the money from each stay goes to animal care and conservation. Some rooms face the Sanctuary, where koalas, echidnas and wallabies live. Others look to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge, and bandicoots and lyrebirds move through the bush between the buildings.
- The Sanctuary Guided wildlife encounters with koalas, echidnas and wallabies, for guests who book direct.
- The whole zoo Entry to Taronga Zoo is included for the length of the stay, with a guided afternoon tour of the Sanctuary.
- By ferry Guests can take the ferry from Circular Quay and be collected at the zoo wharf, on request.
