The hotel
Where the shopping centre stood.
A 1970s shopping centre once filled this corner of Baptist Street. Its replacement is part of Wunderlich Lane, a new strip of cafés and bars on the line between Redfern and Surry Hills. The building, by Adam Haddow of SJB, has a planted courtyard at its centre. The EVE opened in February 2025, independent but affiliated with TFE Hotels.
George Livissianis did the interiors: natural stone and glazed terracotta in the lobby with red and blue accents, velvet banquettes, terrazzo. Rooms come in eucalyptus green or red clay. The lighting is by Henry Wilson and the art by Louise Olsen and Tarryn Gill. Minibars carry snacks and drinks made in Sydney.
- The roof A garden with a pool about twenty metres long, cabanas, retro umbrellas and tiles of Sukabumi stone.
- Lottie Modern Mexican cooking and a mezcal bar upstairs, led by Alejandro Huerta, who cooked at Noma and Pujol.
- Bar Julius A European-style neighbourhood bar on Baptist Street, serving from breakfast onwards.
