The hotel
Gathy on Sunny Bay.
Park Hyatt Sanya opened in February 2015, the fifth Park Hyatt in China. It sits on Sunny Bay, a small inlet a few kilometres from the older resorts of Yalong Bay, in a newer resort district of its own. Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston drew it as six freestanding buildings with arched rooflines, joined by covered walkways through the gardens, with a lake behind them and the beach in front.
Most of the rooms face the South China Sea, and even the standard ones run to about 65 square metres. The villas stand apart, each with a private pool and a butler. Down by the lake, the spa was built as a two-storey house with treatment villas around it, a gym, a yoga studio and an infinity pool. Guests reach it by buggy.
- Five pools A main pool, a family pool, a children's pool, a spa pool and an indoor pool, so there is usually space.
- The Library A book-lined lounge with semi-private corners, on the second level of building six.
- The spa by the lake Reached by buggy, with freestanding treatment villas and an outdoor infinity pool.
