The hotel
Under the Luhuitou headland.
The hotel opened in December 2014 as the Sanya Marriott Hotel Dadonghai Bay and later moved up to the JW Marriott name. John Portman & Associates designed the new building, AECOM drew the master plan and HBA did the interiors. The older Executive Wing was once the Shanhaitian Hotel, refurbished and joined to the resort. It was Marriott Hotels' third address on Hainan when it opened.
It stands where Luhuitou Mountain meets Dadonghai Bay, a crescent of sand on the edge of the city, with the Luhuitou Scenic Area next door. Gardens and a seafront lawn run down to the water, and an infinity pool sits between the two wings, with a lap pool along the shore. Downtown Sanya is a short drive away, and the railway station about twenty minutes.
- Man Ho The Cantonese restaurant, with dim sum and dishes seasoned in the Hainan way.
- Two kids' clubs Little Loong outdoors covers 2,850 square metres, and an indoor club adds another 700.
- Spa by JW Treatments built around four aims: calm, indulgence, energy and renewal. The gym looks out to sea and never closes.
