The hotel

Atlantis on the South China Sea.

Atlantis Sanya opened on 28 April 2018, the first Atlantis in China and the sister of the resorts in Dubai and the Bahamas. Fosun International owns it and Kerzner runs it. Building began in 2014 on 130 acres of Haitang Bay, north-east of the city, and the result is a 48-storey tower shaped like a sail, with every one of its 1,314 rooms facing the sea.

At the heart of the resort is the aquarium: the Lost Chambers and the open-air Ambassador Lagoon hold some 86,000 marine animals. Around them sit a waterpark of 200,000 square metres, Dolphin Cay, a theatre with 1,800 seats and 21 restaurants, bars and lounges. Jeffrey Beers International and HBA did the interiors, mixing sea motifs with the culture of Sanya. At Ossiano, dinner is served beside the glass of the lagoon.

  • Underwater suites In the Neptune and Poseidon suites, the bedroom and bathroom windows give onto the Ambassador Lagoon, with a butler on call day and night.
  • Aquaventure A waterpark of 200,000 square metres, the first in China to open every day of the year.
  • Ossiano Seafood and lamb at tables beside the glass of the aquarium.
