The hotel
Across the street from the Observatory.
The Langham stands on Kent Street in Millers Point, a street above The Rocks and about ten minutes on foot from Circular Quay. Barangaroo, Walsh Bay and The Rocks are all about the same distance away. The building is Irish Georgian in style, and opposite it, on the hill, is Sydney Observatory of 1858, which gave its name to the hotel's bar and its largest suite.
Between August and December 2014 the hotel closed for a full refit and came back with its rooms in Regency style, in mahogany and marble. The indoor pool, twenty metres long, has a Southern Hemisphere night sky painted on its ceiling, and when the water is still the stars show in it. Works by Brett Whiteley, Sidney Nolan and Albert Tucker hang in the hotel.
- The pool Twenty metres, heated and indoors, under a painted night sky, with a mural of Bondi Beach on one wall.
- Afternoon tea The Langham's afternoon tea, served on Wedgwood, with Taittinger to add.
- Tennis A tennis court of its own, and a health club alongside.
