The hotel
A convent on Via di Ripetta.
The building went up in the seventeenth century as a convent, and for a long time it also ran a school for the poor children of the district. It became a hotel in the 1960s, and the same family has run it ever since. The old chapel survives as the Salone Bernini, a large painted room now used for exhibitions and meetings.
The hotel closed in 2020 for a restoration of about 40 million euros, which gave it its present form. The windows are triple glazed against the street. Paintings and sculpture from the owners' collection fill the halls, and the sitting room holds art books and Murano glass. Piazza del Popolo is two streets north, and the Spanish Steps about fifteen minutes on foot.
- Etere Rooftop A terrace bar on the roof, with cocktails and a view over the city.
- Piazzetta Ripetta Italian cooking all day in the hidden garden, with tables outside in fine weather.
- A bakery of its own Breakfast bread and pastries are baked in the hotel.
