The hotel

New York Art Deco over Umekita.

Waldorf Astoria came to Japan in April 2025, on the upper floors of the South Park Tower at Grand Green Osaka, the new quarter beside JR Osaka Station. The hotel sits above Umekita Park. Its guest rooms run from the 31st to the 38th floor, and the windows look out over the bay and west to the mountains of Hyogo. Spa Orin takes the 30th floor, just below the rooms.

The Hong Kong architect André Fu took the Art Deco of the original Waldorf in New York and set it among Japanese crafts: kumiko lattice, washi paper and a peacock-feather pattern that runs through the building. The lobby, known as the lantern, glows gold around a stone fountain, beside a pavilion of oak posts and bronze screens with a sculpture by Jun Kaneko.

  • Peacock Alley The lounge named after the one in New York, with a marble floor laid in peacock feathers, afternoon tea with wagashi and champagne poured from a trolley.
  • Spa Orin Four treatment rooms on the 30th floor, with abdominal massage and other treatments drawn from Japanese ritual, and an indoor pool.
  • A Personal Concierge Every stay comes with a dedicated Personal Concierge, and in-room dining runs around the clock.
