The hotel

A Georgian house above Umeda.

The Ritz-Carlton came to Japan here in 1997, in Nishi-Umeda, a short walk from Osaka Station. The public rooms were modelled on an eighteenth-century English country house: Italian marble, wood panelling, an open fireplace, a Czech chandelier and Persian carpets. Around 450 works of art and a collection of nineteenth-century antiques fill the corridors and lounges; the hotel describes the look as a British aristocrat's house with Japanese touches.

The guest rooms begin on the 24th floor and climb to the 37th, with the city or the bay outside. Afternoon tea is poured in the Lobby Lounge to a live piano, which still feels unusual in Japan. The Forbes Travel Guide gave the hotel five stars for the fourth year running in 2026, and the MICHELIN Guide lists it among the six one-Key hotels in the city.

  • La Baie The French dining room holds one star in the MICHELIN Guide Kyoto Osaka 2026. Shirt and trousers are required.
  • The Bar Some 460 drinks on the list, among them more than a hundred malt whiskies and 110 martinis.
  • Spa and pool ESPA treatments and a ritual built on sake, with an indoor pool, a hot tub and a gym.
