The hotel
Facing the castle moat.
Patina Osaka opened on 1 May 2025, the first city hotel of the Patina brand from Capella Hotel Group, after a first resort in the Maldives. Jun Mitsui & Associates designed the twenty-storey tower between Osaka Castle Park and Naniwanomiya Park. Strickland did the interiors, taking the water of the castle moat, its copper roofs and the Japanese sense of the seasons as their themes.
Guests check in on the twentieth floor with the castle in front of them. Rooms start at about fifty square metres, and their headboards are moulded washi, cast from a section of the castle's granite walls. In 2026 the MICHELIN Guide kept its Key, and Travel + Leisure readers voted it the best hotel in the world, the first Japanese hotel to top that list.
