The hotel
The Ferragamo family's house in Rome.
Portrait Roma fills the upper floors of a nineteenth-century townhouse on Via Bocca di Leone, with the Ferragamo flagship on the ground floor. It belongs to the Lungarno Collection, the hotel company of the Ferragamo family, and its sister is Portrait Firenze. It is also a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. The hotel takes its cue from the world of Salvatore Ferragamo, the shoemaker who founded the house.
Michele Bonan, who designed all the Lungarno hotels, kept the interiors restrained and rich: silk curtains, marble bathrooms and a lift lined in leather. The suites are run like small apartments, with bar-kitchenettes and walk-in wardrobes, and many have a balcony or terrace. Two suites are duplexes with private saunas, and the whole sixth floor is given over to a three-bedroom penthouse.
- The roof terrace Cocktails by an open fireplace, with the Spanish Steps and Trinità dei Monti in view.
- Living like a Roman Every suite has a kitchenette, and many open onto a terrace or a balcony over the street.
- Via Condotti at the door The hotel sits in the grid of shopping streets below the Spanish Steps.
