The hotel
One family at the top of the Steps.
The Swiss hotelier Alberto Hassler opened the hotel in 1893 beside Trinità dei Monti, at the head of the Spanish Steps, and it has stayed with the same Swiss family ever since. Roberto E. Wirth, a fifth-generation hotelier, led it for four decades. His children Roberto Jr. and Veruschka, the sixth generation, run it now, and the house still has only 82 rooms.
In 2026 the hotel went through a major refurbishment, done in stages. Imàgo, the restaurant on the sixth floor, reopened in March with an open kitchen and a four-seat Kitchen Table. Jacques Garcia redesigned the Palm Court as an inner garden, the lobby and Sala Vietri were renewed, and a two-level spa with a heated pool of 13 by 6 metres has been in the works for the autumn.
- Imàgo One Michelin star, on the sixth floor with the city in the windows. Andrea Antonini cooks contemporary Italian food.
- The Palm Court An open-air courtyard hidden inside the hotel, redesigned by Jacques Garcia.
- Suites with a view The San Pietro Presidential Suite has a terrace facing the dome of St Peter's, and the Hassler Penthouse is on the eighth floor.
