The hotel
Facing the tomb of Augustus.
Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo designed the building between 1936 and 1938 as part of the new square around the Mausoleum of Augustus, with the Ara Pacis close by. It is rationalist in style, finished just before the Second World War and inaugurated only in 1950, by the prime minister Alcide De Gasperi. For the hotel, the studio of Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel reworked both the architecture and the interiors, down to the furniture.
It opened on 9 June 2023, the ninth Bulgari hotel. Most of the 106 rooms are suites, in four colour schemes, and the Bulgari Suite of 300 square metres on the second floor faces the mausoleum. Niko Romito, whose Reale in Abruzzo holds three Michelin stars, oversees every restaurant in the building. The MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel three Keys in 2025, and kept them in 2026.
- The spa 1,500 square metres with nine treatment rooms, a 25 metre pool lined in Bisazza mosaic and a vitality pool.
- La Terrazza The rooftop, with cabanas, light dishes through the day and a view all the way round the city.
- The Reading Room A library of books on Roman art, history and architecture, open to guests and, by appointment, to the public.
