The hotel
A town house with a garden behind it.
Valverde opened in September 2014 in a town house of 1889 on Avenida da Liberdade, restored by the Lisbon studio Bastir. It had twenty-two rooms and was furnished in the manner of a London town house, with deep wall colours, antiques and retro details. From the avenue you see little more than a door. The rooms of the old house are compact and moody, and breakfast moves out into the courtyard when the weather is warm.
In 2021 the hotel took in two neighbouring buildings. Bastir returned for the extension, which added twenty-six rooms, a garden and a new pool raised on a terrace at its centre. It now trades as Valverde Lisboa Hotel & Garden. In 2025 the restaurant became Bougain, run by the São Bento Group on the lower ground floor, with a bar in the garden. The hotel belongs to Relais & Châteaux, with Adélia Carvalho as maître de maison.
- The garden An inner courtyard of greenery and a tiled pond, with a heated outdoor pool on a raised terrace above it.
- Bougain The restaurant on the lower ground floor, with a bar that opens onto the garden in warm weather.
- On the avenue The door opens onto Avenida da Liberdade. The MICHELIN Guide lists JNcQUOI, 2Monkeys and 100 Maneiras among the restaurants close by.
