The city
Positano, Amalfi and Ravello.
Three towns share this stretch of coast, each with its own height above the sea. Positano falls in stairs and terraces to its beach. Amalfi gathers round its cathedral and its small harbour. Ravello sits some 350 metres up, among villas and gardens that look straight down the coast.
Summer is the season. From May to September the days reach 20 to 27 °C and the sea warms to 26 °C in August. Ferries run from Naples between April and October, and Capri is a boat ride away for the day, or for longer.
Arriving
Naples, Salerno, then the coast road.
There is no airport on the coast itself. Naples is the main gateway; Salerno, on the other side of the peninsula, is the closer runway for Amalfi and Ravello.
