The hotel
Tuscany on the equator.
The resort opened in October 2009 on the Kigo shore of Lake Victoria, south of the capital, Serena's second address in Uganda after the Kampala Serena. The buildings borrow from Tuscany: terracotta walls, terraced rose gardens, four floors stepping down towards the water. Every room looks out over the lake. Serena Hotels runs it, with a 25-metre pool, a spa and tennis courts in the gardens.
In 2018 the golf course opened. Kevin Ramsey of Golfplan laid out eighteen holes along the shore, par 72 and 7,262 yards from the back tees. A man-made lagoon runs between the opening and closing holes, and the resort's marina sits inside it, the starting point for boat trips out to the chimpanzees of Ngamba Island. Tilapia from the same water turns up at dinner in The Citadel.
- The golf course Eighteen holes by Golfplan on the lakeshore, with a pro shop, caddies, club hire and lessons.
- On the lake Cruises, sunset picnics and fishing trips from the marina, and boats to the Ngamba Island chimpanzee sanctuary.
- Maisha Spa Treatment rooms, a sauna, a steam room and a plunge pool, next to a 25-metre outdoor pool and tennis courts.
