The hotel
The first Tivoli.
The hotel opened on Avenida da Liberdade in 1933 and gave its name to what is now Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, a group of 22 hotels. Its modernist lines go back to the architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro and his work of 1955. The Avenida metro station is two minutes away on foot. Over the decades the guest book has collected Maria Callas, Charles Aznavour, Neil Armstrong and Mario Vargas Llosa.
In October 2026 the hotel unveiled rooms and suites redesigned by Rodrigo Izquierdo Studio, in tile blues, the greens of the avenue's trees and the terracotta of the city's roofs. Gold medallions recall the hotel's 1930s key fobs, and Sintra, a textile work by Mily Possoz woven in Portalegre, hangs in the rooms. The old Cervejaria Liberdade was restored at the same time.
- The garden pool An outdoor pool open in the warmer months since the 1980s, shaded by trees a century old, with a bar alongside.
- SEEN on the roof SEEN Lisboa by Olivier for dinner and the SEEN Sky Bar for lunch and cocktails, both looking across the city.
- Anantara Spa Treatments drawing on Thai traditions, a sauna and a gym open 24 hours.
