The hotel
From World Cup hotel to Gran Meliá.
The building opened in 1978 as the Hotel Internacional Iguazú, put up in time for the World Cup that Argentina hosted that year. In 1985 the cast and crew of The Mission lived here for about three months while filming at the falls. Starwood took it over in 1998 and it spent almost twenty years as a Sheraton.
New owners bought it in 2017 and handed it to Meliá, which spent USD 20 million on a renovation and reopened it as a Gran Meliá in December 2018. The facades became vertical gardens, and Guaraní communities from the region made pieces for the interiors. It is still the only hotel within the park on the Argentine side.
- The infinity pool Fifty metres long and aimed at the Devil's Throat, with a separate pool for children.
- The park after hours Guests buy a park ticket once and can then go in and out of the park for the rest of their stay.
- Yasi Spa Treatments based on rituals of the region, with a gym open around the clock.
