The hotel
A lodge in the Selva Iryapú.
Awasi Iguazú opened in 2018. It stands in subtropical forest on the Argentine side, about 500 metres from the Brazilian border. The villas rise on stilts so the forest floor stays untouched, and paths wind between them through the trees. Some 145 hectares of forest around the lodge are protected, and native animals are cared for and returned to the wild.
The main lodge has beamed ceilings, whitewashed walls and furniture made from reclaimed wood, with textiles, baskets and ceramics from craftspeople in Misiones. Toucans, hummingbirds, coatis and capuchin monkeys live around it. Each villa comes with its own guide and four-wheel-drive car, so no two parties share an outing. Meals, all drinks, excursions and airport transfers are included, and the wine list leans to Argentine bottles.
- Both sides of the falls Your guide handles the border crossing and the tickets, so the Argentine and Brazilian sides fit into one stay, with early access to the Devil's Throat.
- Trained guides Guides trained in natural history, archaeology, history and first aid lead every outing, and excursions are included.
- On the river Kayaking on the Iguazú, and private boat trips to Jesuit ruins of the eighteenth century.
