The hotel
Streamline Moderne on Wilshire.
The hotel opened on 1 June 2017 between Wilshire and Santa Monica Boulevards, the first Waldorf Astoria built from the ground up on the American West Coast. Gensler and Perkins+Will designed the twelve-storey building in a Streamline Moderne style, and Pierre-Yves Rochon did the Art Deco interiors. It was Hilton's twenty-sixth Waldorf Astoria. The owner is Beny Alagem of Alagem Capital.
For its first six years Jean-Georges Vongerichten ran the restaurant. That room closed in 2023, and in 2026 two new ones opened: Baldi, a Tuscan steakhouse by Edo Baldi in the old Jean-Georges dining room, and Gemma on the roof, redesigned by Marc Ange around the pool and the view of the Hollywood Hills. Ezequiel Farca Studio dressed Baldi in woven lanterns, leather banquettes and olive trees, and up on the roof the chef Peleg Miron cooks California pan-Asian dishes.
- The roof A pool for hotel guests only, open from 9 am to 6 pm, and Gemma alongside it on the twelfth floor with the Hollywood Sign in view.
- La Prairie Spa The only spa in Los Angeles devoted to the Swiss skincare house, Skin Caviar treatments included.
- The house Rolls-Royce Arranged through the concierge, and free for drop-offs anywhere within three miles of the hotel.
