The hotel
Starck on La Cienega.
The SLS opened on 4 November 2008 on the site of the old Le Méridien Beverly Hills, on La Cienega Boulevard where Beverly Hills runs into West Hollywood. SBE developed it, and Philippe Starck designed the interiors, his first true luxury hotel in North America. He gave it a playful tone, and a monkey became the hotel's mascot.
For its tenth birthday in 2018 every room was redone in white oak and Carrara marble, with mirror panels and needlepoint cushions after Picasso, and two new suite types were added. Photographs of musicians such as Lenny Kravitz and Mary J. Blige hang by the lifts. It now belongs to Marriott's Luxury Collection.
