The hotel
An artist's house in the village.
Heinz Julen is a Zermatt artist and architect, and the Backstage is his hotel, run with Evelyne Julen. What began as a family house became a place for food, art and entertainment. Julen designed the building in wood, steel and glass, and much of the furniture and decoration inside it too. The Cube Lofts are his signature: boxes of steel and glass, with the bathroom on the lower level and the bed above.
Next door stands the Vernissage, his cultural centre, with a cinema, a cocktail bar, a club and rooms for art. The hotel's spa follows the seven days of the creation story in Genesis. Above it all sits After Seven, a creative restaurant with a MICHELIN star, and below it the Diner's Club, set in the cinema space with a variety stage.
- Cube Lofts Steel and glass cubes 3.70 metres high, with the bathroom below and the bed above, so the room reads as one open space.
- A cinema of your own The Vernissage screens films in its own cinema, beside a bar, a club and an art gallery.
- Genesis spa A wellness area themed on the seven days of creation in the Book of Genesis.
