The hotel

A new name for the same house.

Norbert and Carmen Julen opened 22 Summits in December 2018, a few minutes on foot from the Matterhorn Express. The architects Arnold, Perren & Zurniwen drew it as a modern Walser house, timber above a stone base. The owners, who also run the Casa Vanessa aparthotel and the Hennu Stall après-ski bar, designed the lobby, lounge bar and spa themselves, with raw-look wood, leather chairs and floors that imitate local rough stone.

From 13 November 2026 the hotel is called THE SIXTEEN 20, or 1'620 for short, after the altitude of the village in metres. The building, the address and the team stay the same; only the sign changes. The MICHELIN Guide gave it one Key in 2026 under its old name, and older listings and bookings may still show 22 Summits. This winter the hotel also hosts Hemma, a pop-up dining room run with Brasserie Uno.

  • Two floors of spa About 180 square metres with a sauna, a steam bath, a gym, massage rooms and a whirlpool outdoors.
  • Hemma A winter pop-up restaurant in the hotel from the team behind Brasserie Uno, with a four-course Nordic and Alpine menu by Pontus Hållberg, evenings from Wednesday to Sunday.
  • Close to the lifts The Matterhorn Express and the centre of the village are a few minutes on foot, and the hotel brings you from the station.
