The hotel
A hotel shaped by the peaks.
Building began in 1968 and stopped after the first stage in 1970. Work resumed in 1976, and Hotel Patria opened on 20 December that year, a year later than planned. The Czech architect Zdeněk Řihák shaped the building to answer the mountains behind it. Its name comes from Patria, the 2,203-metre peak between the Mlynická and Mengusovská valleys, and from the Latin word for homeland.
The hotel has been rebuilt several times since. Its guests have included Pope John Paul II, the Slovak presidents Michal Kováč and Ivan Gašparovič and the singer Karel Gott, and it has hosted a meeting of the Slovak government. A small lake planted with greenery sits in the lobby, and the rooms look out over Štrbské Pleso itself and the peaks around it.
- Patria Aqua Paradise A swimming pool with water attractions and several kinds of sauna, with massages and Thalgo rituals.
- On the lake The hotel stands at Štrbské Pleso, and its rooms look over the water and the peaks.
- Slnko The main restaurant, seating 180, with Slovak dishes and house specialities.
