The hotel
The hotel at the fine view.
The spot above Horný Smokovec was known locally as Pekná Vyhliadka, the fine view, and the hotel took the French version of that name. It stands at 1,010 metres at the foot of Slavkovský štít. Today's building joins two hotels of the 1960s, the Bellevue and the Sport, under one roof, with 150 rooms and apartments facing the mountains or the valley.
When the Bellevue opened it was among the leading hotels of Czechoslovakia, and the first in the country with an indoor swimming pool of its own. Film crews used its interiors for "The Copper Tower". The present hotel keeps that pool culture going, with a twenty-metre pool, two warm pools for children and a sauna area for adults, and runs one of the largest conference centres in Slovakia.
