The hotel

Pacheca's second house.

The owners of Quinta da Pacheca, near Lamego, opened this second hotel in 2024 on a wine estate at Vacalar, in the municipality of Armamar. The old manor house was restored by the architect Henrique Gouveia Pinto and now holds events, with its stone walls and courting benches kept. A small chapel dedicated to São José stands on the property.

The new building sits high in the hills and bends with the slope, its glass facing the vineyards that drop in terraces to the Douro. Rooms are lined in wood, with floor-to-ceiling windows and beds built to look like barrels. The MICHELIN Guide gave the hotel one Key in its 2026 Portugal selection. On the roof, an infinity pool and bar look down the valley.

  • On the roof An infinity pool and bar on top of the building, with the valley spread out below.
  • Terroir Vineyard Spa Two treatment rooms, a sauna, a Turkish bath, sensory showers and an indoor water circuit facing the hills, with treatments made from the estate's grapes.
  • Out on the estate Tastings, picnics in the vines, bicycle rides, cooking and pottery workshops, and boat trips on the river.
