The hotel
A palace brought back from ruin.
The MICHELIN Guide dates the palace to the sixteenth century; the hotel's own papers go back to the fifteenth. Either way it was a private house, known as Palazzo Bacchini delle Palme, and it stood in ruins for many years. Venetian historians and craftsmen spent two years restoring it, and the work uncovered eighteenth-century frescoes, Renaissance decoration and marble fireplaces.
It opened as a hotel in August 2016, its name joining Venice and art. The rooms keep chandeliers, silks and brocades, and each one takes a different chapter of Venetian history. In front, a garden runs down to a private pier on the Grand Canal, while Glam, Enrico Bartolini's restaurant, fills a glazed room and a courtyard under an old magnolia.
- The garden A green garden in front of the palace with its own pier on the Grand Canal, so boats can come straight to the door.
- Glam Enrico Bartolini Two MICHELIN stars, the only two-star table in Venice, with Donato Ascani cooking day to day.
- Santa Croce A few steps from the Grand Canal, about ten minutes on foot from the Rialto.
