The hotel
Ninety floors up in Lujiazui.
The Shanghai World Financial Centre, built by the Japanese developer Minoru Mori, rises 101 storeys over Lujiazui. When Park Hyatt opened on its upper floors in 2008, Hyatt claimed the title of highest hotel in the world. Restaurants fill the 87th and 91st floors, and the guest rooms look across the Huangpu to the Bund or over Pudong. Each of them, the hotel says, has a view of the city.
Tony Chi designed the interiors in grey, cream and dark wood, with doors hidden in the walls and hallways laid out the way old Chinese houses kept out bad spirits. Contemporary Chinese art hangs throughout, including three porcelain figures by Gao Xiaowu by the lobby lifts. The spa, the gym and a 20-metre infinity pool share the 85th floor under the name Water's Edge.
- 100 Century Avenue Two kitchens on the 91st floor: a steakhouse on the west side, Cantonese and dim sum on the east.
- The Dining Room Shanghainese, Zhejiang and Jiangsu cooking with rare teas and Chinese wines on the 87th floor, listed in the MICHELIN Guide.
- Water's Edge A 20-metre infinity pool facing the river, with the spa and gym, on the 85th floor.
