The hotel

The Intourist name, back on the boulevard.

Baku's first Intourist hotel opened in 1934, built by the Soviet travel agency to lodge foreign visitors. It was later knocked down. In May 2015 a new five-star building opened under the old name, its design drawn from the original by MKV Design, and a meeting room called Room 1934 keeps the date alive. It first traded in Marriott's Autograph Collection and now carries the Sheraton name.

The hotel faces Baku Boulevard and the Caspian, and most of its 150 rooms take in the water. The Old City walls are a short walk inland. The rooms have been refurbished, and the top category is the Khazar Suite, named after the Caspian in Azerbaijani. Bicycles are free to borrow, which suits the long seafront promenade outside the door, and the gym stays open through the night.

  • On the water Most rooms look over the Caspian and the boulevard, and the promenade starts across the road.
  • Open all night The ABAKUZ Lounge & Terrace serves cocktails around the clock.
  • Bicycles and a spa Free bicycles for the seafront, a spa for massages and facials, and a gym open 24 hours.
