The hotel

From Black City to White City.

East of the centre, the shore of Baku Bay was for more than a century the Black City, the industrial belt of refineries that grew up after the oil lands were auctioned in 1872. A government decree of September 2006 ordered the land cleaned, and a new district, White City, has been rising on it since, with Foster + Partners among the designers.

The Marriott opened there in 2015, on the main road between the centre and the airport, with the Caspian in front. With 818 rooms and suites, a congress centre and a ballroom that seats 1,200, it is built for conferences as much as for holidays. Marriott also sells it as a family hotel by the sea, and the rooms have panoramic views of the sea.

  • Black City Lounge & Terrace A waterfront terrace for Azerbaijani dishes, drinks and shisha, its name a nod to the district's past.
  • The pool A heated indoor pool, free for guests, with a 24-hour gym.
  • BIOnd Beauty Spa Massages and skin treatments with organic products, by appointment.
