The hotel

Bustillo's hotel over the rivers.

The building began life as the Hotel de Turismo, designed by Alejandro Bustillo, the architect of the Llao Llao in Bariloche and the Casino and Hotel Provincial in Mar del Plata. It stands on a hill at the edge of the town, where the Iguazú runs into the Paraná and three countries face each other. After it closed, it stood empty for decades, and local authorities later declared it historical heritage.

In 2005 the provincial pension institute let it by tender. The new operator kept the facade, added side wings, glass lifts, a spa and a rooftop bar, and opened the Panoramic in late 2006. Inside, the rooms are now plain and contemporary. The town centre is two blocks away, and the falls about fifteen minutes by car. The hotel now belongs to the Grand Hotels Lux collection.

  • Spa Ysyry At the highest point of the hotel, with a couples' room, sauna, steam bath and jacuzzi over the rivers. Ysyry is Guaraní for flowing water.
  • Buena Vista Bar Snacks and drinks at sunset, looking out over the Tres Fronteras.
  • Casino Slot machines, electronic roulette and table games inside the hotel, open at night.
