The hotel
Built for the first lift of the day.
Matterhorn FOCUS opened in 2008 right at the valley station for the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise. The Zermatt artist Heinz Julen drew the buildings and the rooms in glass, steel and wood, and designed much of what is in them as well: the lamps, the sofas, the beds and the freestanding baths. Switzerland Tourism calls the result stylish and warm-hearted,. Three of the suites have their own fireplace.
The hotel is spread over three buildings, joined underground, and a passage of about two minutes leads to the cable car. Almost every room has a balcony looking over Zermatt or up at the Matterhorn. The MICHELIN Guide gave it two Keys in its first Swiss selection in 2025 and kept both in 2026. There is no restaurant: breakfast, an evening aperitif at the bar and a short snack menu, with the shops of Bahnhofstrasse about ten minutes away.
- Lift to the Matterhorn Express A lift and an underground passage take you from the hotel to the cable car in about two minutes.
- Heinz Julen's furniture The lamps, sofas, beds and baths were designed for the hotel by the same artist who drew the building.
- Pool and jacuzzi A heated indoor pool and an outdoor jacuzzi, with treatments using Alpienne products.
