The hotel
Regent comes back to California.
For years this block of Ocean Avenue, beside the Santa Monica Pier, held the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel, with 347 rooms. The renovation cut the count to 167, so that the smallest room now measures about 67 square metres with a living room of its own. The building fills a whole city block, and its U shape wraps around the pool deck, and most rooms look out to sea.
Regent, founded in 1970 and part of IHG since 2018, reopened it in October 2024 as the brand's first flagship in the Americas. Its earlier American chapter was in Beverly Hills, at the hotel where Pretty Woman was set. Chantell Walsh led the design with AvroKO and Wimberly Interiors, in pale coastal tones. Michael Mina runs the restaurant, Ayesha Curry the café, and Guerlain opened its first spa on the West Coast on the ground floor.
- Guerlain Wellness About 930 square metres with twelve treatment rooms, plunge pools, saunas and steam rooms.
- The beach A beach butler sets up a lounger and umbrella on the sand, and electric bikes are free for the path along the shore.
- Early and late A lounge with showers for guests who arrive before their room is ready or leave after check-out.

LAX is 22 to 55 minutes away by car, according to Forbes Travel Guide, depending on traffic. Santa Monica Airport is close by, but its short runway keeps out larger jets, so most private flights use Van Nuys, about 40 minutes to an hour away by our estimate.
