The hotel
Dark stone at the western tip.
Canaves Epitome stands about a mile from the centre of Oia, at the western tip of the island, above the fishing harbour of Ammoudi. Most Oia hotels face the caldera; this one looks west, over Thirasia and the open Aegean, which puts the sunset right in front of the terraces.
The Canaves group built it in grey and black volcanic stone, with arches and rough walls that blend into the hillside, where the rest of the village is whitewashed. Every suite and villa starts at 45 square metres and has at least a plunge pool on its terrace. Two infinity pools serve the whole hotel, the lower one shallow at the entry for children.
- West to the sea An unbroken view over Thirasia and the open Aegean, away from the crowds of central Oia.
- Two infinity pools One facing the open sea, the other with a shallow entry that suits families.
- Five-bedroom villa Nearly 5,000 square feet for up to fourteen guests, with its own infinity pool, a private spa and a terrace of 3,400 square feet.
