The hotel

Built into the cliff at Oia.

Mystique opened in May 2007, carved into the caldera cliff below Oia. The architect Mary Kavagia followed the island's old way of building, with white Cycladic rooms set into the rock, and kept the original structure of the cliff. The hotel now belongs to Marriott's Luxury Collection, and all 43 suites and villas have since been refurbished. The terraces look west across the caldera to the volcano.

The Secret Wine Cave is a cellar about 150 years old, stocked with wines from indigenous Greek grapes. It is used for tastings and for dinners by candlelight. Two pools sit on the volcanic rock, one beside Circe Bar and one beside the Captain's Lounge. The Holistic Villa, with two bedrooms and its own infinity pool, takes the highest point of the hotel.

  • The Secret Wine Cave A cellar of some 150 years, open in the evening for tastings and private dinners by candlelight.
  • Two cliff pools One by Circe Bar, one by the Captain's Lounge, both on the volcanic rock above the caldera.
  • Elios Spa Treatments with organic ingredients from the region, and a gym with a view of the volcano.
