The hotel
The nuns of Conca dei Marini.
The convent was finished in 1681 and dedicated to St Rose of Lima, paid for by Sister Rosa Pandolfi of a noble family from Scala. Its nuns built an aqueduct from Mount Vocito, made remedies from the garden, and invented the Sfogliatella Santa Rosa, a cream-filled pastry, for their Mother Superior. In the late 1800s the building passed to the town.
A Roman hotelier, Mr Marcucci, bought it in 1924 and turned it into a hotel, later run by the Caterina family for three generations before it fell empty. Bianca Sharma saw the ruin from a boat, bought it in 2000 and spent about ten years restoring it. It reopened in 2012 with twenty rooms. Four levels of garden now fall from the terraces to a pool cut into the cliff of Monte San Pancrazio.
- The pool An elliptical freshwater infinity pool, heated, at the foot of four levels of garden and cut into the cliff of Monte San Pancrazio.
- The spa Inside the old stone walls, using Santa Maria Novella products and herbs from the garden.
- To Amalfi A daily shuttle runs into Amalfi until midnight.
