The hotel
Palladio's Zitelle, made into a hotel.
The complex grew up in the late sixteenth century around Santa Maria della Presentazione, the church of Le Zitelle, to designs by Andrea Palladio. It took in young unmarried women and taught them lacemaking. Beside it stand the Conventino at the back and Villa Frollo, once a house for noble families and later a pensione for painters and writers. For years the buildings ran as the Bauer Palladio.
Airelles bought the property in 2018 and halved the room count, from 90 to 45, to make space for larger suites and bathrooms. Christophe Tollemer brought in close to three thousand antiques and decorative pieces. The hotel opened in April 2026 as the first Airelles outside France, and that year the MICHELIN Guide gave it three Keys and named it Opening of the Year.
- Guerlain spa About 1,700 square metres over three floors, which Airelles calls the largest spa in Venice, with a two-storey indoor pool, sauna, steam room and cold plunge.
- Gardens on the lagoon Nearly a hectare of private gardens, rare in Venice, with three pools between indoors and out.
- The church Santa Maria della Presentazione is being restored. Once the work is done, guests will have private access and tours.
