The hotel
A mountain lodge inside the rock.
From the village street, a softly lit tunnel leads into the rock. Glass lifts then rise through the stone to a lobby about 45 metres above the rooftops, at almost 1,650 metres. The Omnia sits on that outcrop, Auf dem Fels, looking straight across Zermatt to the Matterhorn, with two terraces facing the mountain. All but one of the rooms has a balcony with that view.
The New York architect Ali Tayar drew it as a modern version of the American mountain lodge: glass, metal and larch outside, a roofline that echoes the peak, granite, leather and an open fire within. He designed most of the furniture as well. No two of the thirty rooms share a layout, and a library of art and design books sits off the lobby.
- Arrival through the rock A tunnel from the street and glass lifts up through the stone bring guests to the lobby, with the village below.
- The pool An indoor pool heated to 30°C, with a glass wall that opens to the air, plus a hammam, sauna and an outdoor whirlpool.
- The Caverne A bar carved out of the granite, alongside the lounge bar with its fireplace.
