The hotel
Oscar Wilde's room, now a suite.
The Cadogan opened as a hotel in 1887, built by the Willett family on land that Hans Sloane had bought in 1712. On 6 April 1895 Oscar Wilde was arrested here, in room 118, after his libel case against the Marquess of Queensberry collapsed. The room survives as part of the Royal Suite. The hotel sits on the Cadogan Estate, whose history here goes back more than three hundred years, and Sloane Street runs past the door to Knightsbridge.
Belmond took on the hotel in 2014 and spent four years restoring it before reopening in 2019. Five Queen Anne style buildings were joined together, and the old bank counter in the lobby became a bar. More than 400 works of art hang in the hotel, most of them by British women artists. Guests have keys to Cadogan Place Gardens across the street, with its tennis courts.
- Cadogan Place Gardens A private garden square opposite the hotel, for residents and hotel guests, with tennis courts.
- Willett's A British bistro opened in March 2026 by Michael Turner, formerly of the Savoy Grill, with an open kitchen and crumpets on the menu all day.
