The hotel
A hotel in the sky above Southwark.
Shangri-La signed up for the Shard in 2005, years before Renzo Piano's glass tower rose over London Bridge station. The hotel opened on 6 May 2014, the group's first in Britain, on nineteen floors from the 34th to the 52nd. Guests come in at street level on St Thomas Street and ride up to a sky lobby. The Shard itself had opened to the public the year before.
Most rooms look over the Thames, through glass that runs from floor to ceiling. Corner rooms take in a half-circle of the city, from Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe to St Paul's. The bar on the 52nd floor opened a fortnight after the hotel. The 17 suites each come with a butler. Borough Market is a few minutes away on foot.
- The Sky Pool An infinity pool on the 52nd floor, looking towards St Paul's, the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament.
- GŎNG Cocktails, sushi and sake at the top of the hotel, with views to the west, north and east.
- Views to study Every room has binoculars, and the corner rooms have a 180-degree view across the river.
