The hotel
The port's headquarters, opposite the Tower.
Sir Edwin Cooper designed the building for the Port of London Authority, and John Mowlem & Co took ten years to build it. David Lloyd George opened it in 1922. In 1946 its boardroom held the reception for the first meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, and that room is now the UN Ballroom. The building is Grade II* listed and faces the Tower of London across Trinity Square.
Aukett Swanke converted it, and it opened as a Four Seasons hotel in January 2017. The columns, woodwork and chandeliers stayed. Four floors of rooms ring the rotunda under its glass dome, where breakfast, drinks and afternoon tea are served. The suites fill the old executive offices, and private residences with terraces take the top floor. Today it holds 89 rooms, 11 suites and 35 residences.
- The Rotunda The domed centre of the building, for breakfast, cocktails and afternoon tea by Lily Vanilli.
- The pool A 14-metre indoor pool below ground, and a spa with eight treatment rooms and a hammam.
- The UN Ballroom The former boardroom where the United Nations General Assembly held its first reception in 1946.
