The hotel

An admiral's house in Santa Cruz.

Admiral López-Pintado built the house in 1729, according to the hotel: a two-storey Sevillian palace around a courtyard, with double-arched windows on the street. The MICHELIN Guide calls it a classic of the Mudéjar manner, and the city has protected it as an asset of interest since December 2009. The conversion brought back the original marble, the parquet, the tiles and the main staircase.

CoolRooms turned it into a hotel of fifty rooms, leaving the old structure in place and adding modern furniture and strong colour in small doses. The old winery now holds the restaurant, Los Rincones del Marqués, and breakfast is served in the vaulted basement. At the top, under the dome, the Torreón suite has its own terrace, and the roof terrace has a small pool.
