The hotel

A listed building, redrawn in colour.

Grand Poet opened on 12 January 2018 in a nineteenth-century building on Raiņa bulvāris, the boulevard named after the poet Jānis Rainis. The building is a protected monument, and the renovation kept its five-storey wooden staircase and its tiled stoves. Semarah, the Latvian group behind it, called it the first five-star design hotel in the country. It has 168 rooms and suites.

The Swedish studio Stylt Trampoli did the interiors, which the MICHELIN Guide reads as a postmodern take on the Belle Époque: graphic murals, strong colour and contrast. The hotel shows and buys work by students of the Art Academy of Latvia nearby. Bastejkalns park and its canal lie across the road, and the Freedom Monument is a few minutes on foot.

  • Hedonic Spa An indoor pool, saunas, steam rooms, a Turkish bath and a jacuzzi. Access comes with every room.
  • Art from next door Paintings and works by young artists from the Art Academy of Latvia, shown and collected by the hotel.
  • On the park Rooms on the front look over Bastejkalns, the green canal park between the old town and the boulevards.
